Strip mining in Gerrardstown: giving our families the food they deserve!

Those Against it Need to do Their Homework!

Every where I go and every where I READ there are signs and articles against STRIP MINING the Gerrardstown, WV.

Are you kidding me?  Toxins in the water?  Erosion?   What about all of the children who are starving because their fathers have lost their jobs in the other local quarries because of the economy?  Do you people even realize that without these quarries employing half of the Berkeley County residents YOU are and have been contributing to the declining economy!  Do you care about the people who are trying to raise children around you or do you really only care about whether or not you can sell your houses when you're ready to retire and move to Florida?

My Husband and his father and his father and his uncles have all been miners and due to the declining economy and the governments and the states declining funds for the industries that are based upon the products coming from local quarries......they are all jobless!   I have never had to worry about paying my mortgage until now, nor have I ever had to worry about if I will have food for my children tomarrow, because their father has been employed since the day he got out of high school!

Now the people who oppose the strip mining are not understanding correctly that these companies are required, by law, to make sure that they are keeping the dust levels down, that they are keeping the water levels in the adjacent communities to a high level and they are also under strict rulings and policies to test, treat/dispose of properly and prevent any and all kinds of contaminations; so there is no way that all of those who oppose are educated in this matter.   My thoughts are that you all are just gulable and believing those who feed you there envirnmental jargen and you need to stop and think.......feed your neighbors or feed your egos.   That's all it boils down to.

By the time any erosion or water is affected the quarries will be starting back to the first holes they dug and filling them back in.  If any local wells that start to run low, the quarries will come in and dig your well deeper; free of charge!   That's how they work people!  I know, my husband did that for his company until he got laid off!

We do not live in the 'olden days' the EPA has very strict rules and if the quarries do not abide by them then they get SHUT DOWN!

Do you not realize that without mines you would not have a nice road to drive on?  That means no complaining to your county when those potholes f&*@ your car up! That means no tupperware to pack your quaint little picknick fatty foods in and that means no, CARS to drive your little butts down to all of those hearings that you are sooo fond of arguing at!

Without mining you wouldn't have anything and this state was founded on mining....so live hear and like it or get out and go move to a state where they don't mine.....Good Luck!

So, for all those who feel that Gerrardstown has not been sufficiently utilized to help in the economical increase and production of all that contributes to the metal industry (including Cars, Drywall, Housing Developments, Roads, Rubbermaid products, etc) take a stand against those who are against the Gerrardstown Strip Mine!

Help the Strip Mine give us jobs and help us feed our children!

Its ashamed you cant find a way to feed your kids without raping the land...i wonder if you'll sell out the land what will you rape for a living when thats done...ever think of looking for work in another field? Maybe they are hiring to rape somebody elses mountains...try jersey or something...thats all i need is more noisy ,filthy dump trucks rolling past my house at a high rate of speed...as long as its not your road right?

Of course James. U can speak of rape all u want. Need I remind u that This is MY Road! If u didn't have dusty roads, with noisy trucks hauling the rock to the state maintenance trucks; well, you wouldn't have a road to even drive on. Oh, well, excuse me...you would be driving on a dirt road and a horse with wooden buggy because without quarries you wouldn't have your vehicle either. '

Look, If you didn't understand what I said about how the quarries are required, by law, to replace the dirt and all before they move onto another section of the land they are digging up so that the land can replenish itself, then I suggest you go and visit a quarry yourself to talk to the engineers there. They are also required to water down the roads to keep down the dust levels, etc.

Without quarries/mines nobody would have half of the items that YOU are used to using in your modern world. Instead of trying to shut down the mining ventures in poverish communities you should be forming groups to help the businesses and communities flourish, especially in an economically fragile time as now, and groups that will help those same businesses assure their environmentally correct procedures are known to the same communities.

Do you know that 65% of the 75% of the population would become employed again with the opening of mines. And did you know that 95% of everything your hands touch, daily, has been created in some way from or by or with the use of material that is product of MINING?

Regarding the employment issue.....How fast could a Lawyer that has never had any other work experience be hired by McDonalds, or a Scientist who has never been trained in stocking or sales to get hired by Sears or JCPenny's? It's not that easy! Imagine being a miner in your late 40's, with no other skills, 6 children, a disabled wife, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 turtle & 1 lizard that are relying on you, but because of the economy, the countries mines shutting down and others that are ready to start up are being denied starting & employing a community FULL of unemployed citizens all because of uneducated, property hoarding hypocrits......What are u prepared to do? How about in the very near future when all of the mining products are not available because YOU have SHUT THEM DOWN?

Have you ever lived in the ghost town era? Prepare to be in it again.

Grasp that!

Everything starts from the ground up. You wanna sit there eatin your tofu and talkin about savin the earth....save this.....you don't know what you're talking about! You sit there eating your alfafa sprouts talking about hippie this and hippie that....well you obviously never lived back in the day; when the land was all dirt and the dust was everywhere, diggin and bustin your you-know-what all day just to, hopefully, eat two eggs and some bread......you got it good and don't have one reality based brain cell in your head.

If everything was handle your way....the world would be back to the depression days and you couldn't handle that!

Companies that are not respectful of the land while mining -shut down....Sounds like all you people are worried about is dust on your car and if the re-sale value of your house will go down!

It won't! And you can't handle what the world would be like if everything you fight for was won, because the world would be left with nothing like it has today......I'd like to see you living in a hand made hut, wearing burlap clothing.
